Stopped over on the way to Australia for next week's Gold Coast
Marathon. Sauna like atmosphere. It's a new parkrun - only been running
for 5 weeks. There are now 4 parkruns here. This one is closest to the
centre and easy to reach - just 4 stops on the 'Brown' metro line from
Maxwell in Chinatown to Tanjong Rhu then a 10 minute walk. |

My fastest parkrun for 13 months despite an eight hour flight the

allowing the legs to rest. |

parkrun Review Saturday 29th June 2024
Three more parkruns were added to the club list week – on three different
continents. Piers Keenleyside (28:53), en-route to the Gold Coast Marathon (next
weekend) dropped in on the Bay East Garden parkrun in Singapore. Piers has
also run the East Coast Park parkrun in Singapore. There is also a West
Coast parkrun (already on our list) and the Bishan parkrun in Singapore (up for
grabs).
Paul Watt (20:59) and Julie Barclay (24:21) were the first members to visit
Blaise Castle parkrun between Bristol and Avonmouth which was celebrating its
50th run. Roderick Hoffman (28:08) enjoyed the conditions at Meadowvale
(Ontario) parkrun and achieved his best time for over a year. The club
total is now up to 819 different parkrun venues. Individual totals are no
longer provided by parkrun although it is possible to display a list and count
them!
The best age grade scores this week were achieved by Mike Dennison (79.81% at
Hazelwood) and Julie Barclay79.67% at Blaise Castle). Our fastest runner
was Ian Haylock (20:47 at Bushy Park).
With no parkrun at Osterley this week, Alan Anderson (44:58) returned to his
old stomping ground at Gunnersbury to try out the newly laid tarmac path and
recorded his best time there since 2019.

Not a race, or is it?
It isn't a race - but that doesn't stop people racing. I came 21st and did my
best time for 13 months with 28:08 partly because of the two ladies running at
about my pace - two of us changed places several times including because I ran
faster up the slight undulations whereas she ran faster down the other sides. We
both ran faster because of the other, but
were we racing? She let me finish ahead of her - telling me in the queue to be
scanned that she
didn't want to aggregate a recent injury. That sounds like racer's talk to me!
Then, come the preparation of this week's club results table I was delighted to
see that I finished with a quicker time than four of you who normally finish
within sight of, but ahead of, me - Stephen, Piers, Trish and Joe - I haven't done
that for a while. Now, we all ran different courses (and I know I'd have
struggled in the heat of Singapore) but I'm happy to think I've won this week
(or at least finished second to Alice). Next week will be another week - who
will do better then? [Ed: And before Piers writes in - I do acknowledge that his
age grade was better than mine, despite his slower time in worse conditions]
