Men's XC 3nd Match Details - Oxshott 11th January from 14:30 + extra X/C on Feb 22nd.

Hi guys, here are the details of our 3rd cross country race of the season at Oxshott 11th Jan 2014 NOTE the early start time of 2.30pm.  At the moment we lie in 3rd place and not to far from second place, so a good turnout would be very much appreciated by the lads who have done so well this season. Oxshott Event details.

Look forward to seeing most of you there.

Also we have been invited to attend Milocarians A/C home fixture at Royal Military Barracks, Sandhurst on the 22nd February 2014. So far I have 3 names it would be nice if we could get 8 or more to make a team. Those who have done this race before will know what an enjoyable afternoon it is. More details to follow when I receive them. If any is interested in this cross country race can they please let me
know at gary.rushmer@btinternet.com.

Cheers Gary.

Club family parkrun results and stats for Xmas and New Year period

With 25 family members running 54 parkruns at 21 different venues there is insufficient space in the digest to list performances. Check Steve's spreadsheet for all of the details.  But some highlights...

  • Neil Frediani managed to fit in five parkruns over the period - two Saturday runs, an Xmas day run and two New Year's Day runs.  Four members managed four runs over the same period.
  • Robert Fleming and Tony Hird both ran their fiftieth parkruns. Gary Rushmer is up to 49.
  • Bushy Park and Gunnersbury were equally popular with 7 club runs at each - Gunnersbury with 7 different runners. Crane Park was next with six.
  • Roderick Hoffman added another Melbourne parkrun to the list - Diamond Creek.  He wasn't the only tourist there - there were a couple of Datchet Dashers also visiting family for Christmas.
  • Richard Ruffell continues to travel - he has now run eleven different parkruns without a repeat.

Club Featured parkrun

The next club featured parkrun will be at Gunpowder on Saturday January 25th hosted by Tony Hird. Gunpowder is just off the M25 near Waltham Abbey. I recommend this parkrun - the course and park is like Bedfont Lakes but without the lakes. Let me know if anyone needs a lift to and from the venue.

Mile Races

January's Magic Mile is taking place next Thursday on the 9th.

Event will start at 12:45 by the Newport Road Junction --> http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=507119&y=176891&z=110&s%E2%80%A6

Route ( http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6061575 ) then heads back towards Waterside on the Bath Road, stopping just before the Thistle Hotel.  It's a self-timed event, just turn up on the day.

I ran the 'Ealing Mile' on Friday. It is a free to enter event staged by the Ealing Half Marathon team every first Friday of the month at 12:30pm in Lammas Park, Ealing. There was record entry this Friday (due to the extended Christmas break) of 56. I came 15th in a time of 6:20. The course has a certificate of accuracy and so results appear on the EA website and Power of 10. http://ealingmile.com/node/10

New Years Day Hyde Park 10k

I ran the Hyde Park 10K this morning (1st Jan). I can't remember ever running a race in such wet and windy conditions. We had to line up in a queue to drop off our bags before the start and as there was little shelter from the elements everyone left it a bit late to take off their rain gear and pack it away in bags - which meant there was a very long queue just before the scheduled start time of 11:00am.

I found a bit of shelter from wind and rain over near the start line and waited for the gun to start the race about 50m away! I figured that as it was chip timed it would not matter too much - however I then had to fight my way past the slower runners over the first mile or so which was a bit difficult on the narrow paved paths. Finished in a time of 44:29 which gave me a 3rd place in the V55 category (based on chip times). I've never been so glad to get into a cafe to warm up after the race!

Todworth 10mile

Julie Barclay ran a course PB time by a minute in the Todworth 10mile.  This event has almost become 60% off road as the organisers decided the inconsiderate motorist were making it unsafe along the road so bettter safe than sorry.

All our members that have ran XC league fixtures over Epsom Downs are well familiar with the mini mountains.  Today's course starts with a half mile ascent then two laps of UP/UP/UP before returning down to finish.

The weather was freezing wind and the surface full of puddles muddy/sloshy.  Although running a PB Julie was a little disappointed not able to keep to her 8min per mile plan over this particular course.  At 5mile spot on, but then lost it on the second lap big hill and unable to make the time up.

Julie finished 3rd over 50 Lady in 81.54.  Was 242nd overall out of 638 finishers.

2014 BRIGHTON HALF MARATHON – SURREY CLUB RUNNER ENTRY

Dear club secretary,

As you’re possibly aware, the 2014 Brighton Half Marathon ‘sold out’ on 30th June 2013.  We’re very aware that such an early ‘sell out’ for the Brighton Half Marathon is unprecedented.  For the 2014 Brighton Half Marathon, we therefore purposefully reserved 500 places for Sussex & Surrey club runners to release in December / January.  Therefore, until Friday 10th January 2014*, we will open a restricted access entry point for Surrey Club runners only from the web link below:

https://regonline.activeeurope.com?eventID=1218905&rTypeID=138660

To complete the registration process, your members will need to use access code SURREY.  We’d be very appreciative if you could pass on this information to your members.

Many thanks & kind regards,

Paul & Gavin

* The entry point may close before Friday 10th January should we reach the limit of 500 reserved places.
