October CIE (Club In-house Event) Equinox 5k 3rd October

This year's Equinox 5km will revert to the course introduced in 2010, featuring the path through both Cranford Park and Avenue Park. Some of the course has been borrowed from the Concorde 10km and is generally flat.

Wave start times have been arranged around the times of sunset and the intention to be out of the parks before that and also for the timekeeping team to be able to operate without torches and return to the Concorde Club during twilight. (Sunset 18:32, Twilight 19:05.)

THE START WILL BE IN CHURCH ROAD ADJACENT TO THE OLD RECTORY NURSERY SCHOOL GATE.

  • The course then follows Church Road into the Field of Hope and then takes the northwest cycle track up the Parkway (A312) to the roundabout at the bottom of the Hayes By-pass.
  • Left and then left again into Roseville Road by the Crane pub.
  • Enter Cranford Park via the alley and through St Dunstan's subway and take a broad sweep round to the left to reach Church Road again by the car park.
  • Head towards the humpback bridge over the River Crane but branch off to the right through a gap in the fence and join the crushed gravel path starting near the river.
  • Follow the path along the river turning left to cross the river via the narrow footbridge and turning right after the bridge to emerge from the trees into Avenue Park. This is approx the half way point.
  • Follow the path all the way to the narrow exit from Avenue Park in Park Lane. Turn left and then left again into Cranford High Street.
  • At the junction with A312 (approx 4km) follow the path round to the left and head back towards the M4 junction. The finish will be on the Concorde 10km finish line.

Wave starts as follows designed for a mass dash to the finish at 6.35 p.m.

  • 10 minute milers start at 6.04p.m.
  • 9 minute milers start at 6.07 p.m.
  • 8 minute milers start at 6.10 p.m.
  • 7 minute milers start at 6.13 p.m.
  • Elite start 6.15 p.m.

Please report to Brian Forrester AT THE START at least five minutes before your chosen start time. Numbers will probably not be issued.

Run-of-the-Month Tuesday 4th September Round-the-Park Results

On a very warm hot summer September lunchtime, we had 9 participants for the 5K RTP run consisting of 2 laps around the park. No teams or females entered this year, but it was great to see 2 non-athletic section members running. Barry Walters lead the way round the course which had been well marked out by Tom (Rowley) on the usual route around the field and through the wooded section, with most of the runners heading for the shade of the trees after completing the run. The entry fee of 1 pound per runner will be donated to the local White Lodge Charity.

Thanks to all who participated or helped.

News for the next BAAC News Digest? A good picture perhaps - to brighten our day?

The idea of this communication is to consolidate some of the news items that would otherwise be forwarded individually to all club members.  This should reduce the total number of emails landing in your inbox whilst highlighting all of the running related news.  We will still send out prompt announcements for key events as separate emails. Please let us know if you think that this Digest is a good idea or on how it could be improved.  And please send us some items for inclusion in the next one.

Results, news, feedback, jokes, stores - send it to us at news@barunner.org,uk.
