Track Training

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are all enjoying the Olympics.

The track training will start again on Monday nights.  Everyone with all abilities are welcome - contact Eddie if this will be your first time. We have some Grand Prix events to complete so I will keep you all up to date when these will be scheduled to take place.

Starting Monday 13th August, 6pm, at the Uxbridge track:

Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex
Gatting Way, Park Road
Uxbridge
Middlesex
UB8 1NR

Drive down Gatting Way and take the second left turn to a free car park in front of the athletics stadium. It costs £3.60 to use the track (cheaper if you are a Hillingdon resident).  Keep your receipt because Eddie can get a partial refund from BA Clubs (for BA Clubs members).

Eddie Giles.

Not the highest turnout due to the Olympics but lets see whether we can turn up in bulk at next Saturday's Crane Park parkrun:

  • It will be great if we can show support for this recently introduced parkrun, now the nearest parkrun to the Concorde Centre. They only had 32 runners last week with times from 18:48 to 41:05.
  • This is a great opportunity between the Olympics and Paralympics to meet up with fellow BAAC members at our August Run-of-the-Month.
  • This event (along with all parkruns on the 18th) form part of the "Join in Local Sport" initiative attempting to be the UK's biggest ever celebration of local sport.  See https://www.joininuk.org/.

This is a 5k "parkrun".  This means that it is a free to enter event.  All that you need to do is pre-register at www.parkrun.org.uk, print off and bring your unique barcode and then turn up and run. The course is in Crane Park just south of Hounslow Heath.  You can set your sat navs to the postcode TW13 5QX. Full details of the location and course are on the website page http://www.parkrun.org.uk/crane/course.  There isn't a specific car park for the event but parking shouldn't be a problem in many roads a warm-up 1k from the start. I can provide a lift from the Concorde Centre for the first four club members who need this.  Start time is 9:00 but try to get there for 8:45 so that we can get a team photograph.

Please let me know if you need help getting to the event or if you have any other questions or thoughts.

Roderick Hoffman (roderick@rhoff.org.uk) ROM club champion for this event.

British Army Military Boot Camp - Wed 15th , Sat 18th

If you are unable to attend the club priority events Rosenheim T&F Final on the 15th or the ROM parkrun on the 18th then you might like to consider the following - though you'll need to book promptly:

BActive is proud to bring to you a fantastic opportunity to take part in an organised Military Boot Camp run by Will McClay of the Welsh Guards, and other serving members of the British Army.

It is aimed at all levels of fitness but be prepared to work hard! Exercises will include body weight, plyometrics, tyre work and plenty of other methods.

The Boot Camp is for members and non-members of the BActive gyms and costs just £8 for a 90 minute session. Payable on the day.

  • Wednesday 15th August, The Concorde Club Sports Ground - 19.00 - 20.30
  • Saturday 18th August, The Concorde Sports Ground - 10.00 - 11.30

This Boot Camp will be an amazing experience, and if it proves popular we will look to run one on a regular basis.

Please be advised that you need to book your space on the Boot Camp. You can do this by ringing Waterside BActive on 85065 or Concorde on 0208 51332004 or 0208513 2003

BAAC Photo Caption Competition

Just for fun; you know what you have to do.  Think of the most amusing or apt caption for the following photograph featuring a club colleague and tell us at news@barunner.org.uk

Thank you for a wonderful Olympics

Many club colleagues have been supporting the London Olympics. Thank you for your efforts.  We most definitely have been rewarded for our efforts with what must be considered one of the best Olympic Games ever.  And a highly successful one for our athletes also.

Next on the agenda - the Paralympics. I did my first Paralympics Games Maker shift this morning.

Roderick Hoffman

Race Calendar Opportunity

Our former running colleague Bill Byrne is looking for someone to help him with an online race calendar.  They wouldn't have to be mega-technical as the publishing is pretty straightforward - more someone with an interest in running and time to trawl the various paper and online calendars already out there.

Anyone interested please contact Bill directly to find out more.

News for the next BAAC News Digest?

The idea of this communication is to consolidate some of the news items that would otherwise be forwarded individually to all club members.  This should reduce the total number of emails landing in your inbox whilst highlighting all of the running related news.  We will still send out prompt announcements for key events as separate emails. Please let us know if you think that this Digest is a good idea or on how it could be improved.  And please send us some items for inclusion in the next one.

Results, news, feedback, jokes, stores - send it to us at news@barunner.org,uk.
