Results for Next Week

Please help me by sending in your results, for instance by filling in the tables below and forwarding to News@barunner.org.uk. Some events will have "Prompts" set up in Facebook. These allow the posting of a single image and some text and make it easy to flip through everyone's entries.

Monthly Mile - please submit your May Mile performance for publication in the first August digest:

Run one mile and send me your time or add the details to the prompt in Facebook. The mile can be somebody else's formal event or even one mile within a longer run. I'll then produce a fancy graph showing your time this month compared to those of other people and previous runs over the last year:

BAAC AGM - Wednesday 3rd July 2024

This year's meeting was attended by 11 members.  Please take a look at the minutes, and let us know if you have any questions or comments.

 Of special note:

  • After 14 years Alan Friar has stood down as Membership Secretary, for a well-earned break.  Steve Taylor has taken over in the role.
  • We have balanced the books yet again.
  • Our sporting teams have been successful in T&F, XC, parkrun, in house events and marshalling.
  • We continue to look for volunteers to lead club events and join the committee.

Track & Field 2024 – Perivale, July 10th

Our last Veterans League match of the season was held at Perivale track, which sits alongside the least busy railway station in Greater London (a free pub quiz fact for you).  Unfortunately, the event clashed with a concert, the Lord’s test and a Euros 2024 semi-final, so our turnout was somewhat depleted.  Nevertheless, our team achieved four top three places, including a win in the High Jump.  Well done to Sean O’Keeffe, who carried the banner for BAAC men, before flying off for further cabin crew duties.

Long Jump M60 Sean O’Keeffe M65 3.61 3rd
High Jump M60 Sean O’Keeffe M65 1.35 1st
Hammer (5kg) M60 Sean O’Keeffe M65 20.01 2nd
Javelin (600g) M60 Sean O’Keeffe M65 25.88 2nd
Our final 2024 season match takes place this Wednesday:

Wed 17th July  Rosenheim      Woking            Location:  SportsBox, Egley Road, GU22 0AF.

Everyone is welcome…please let me know if you are available to compete.    Let’s finish the season with more great performances!

 Steve Hillier

Ed: Analysis of the results show that even with only one competitor our BA men's team didn't come last - that honour went to Ealing Eagles whose 'Small' male team ran two of the distances but didn't compete in the field.

Steve Hillier Cycling 32km Hillingdon Sun 02:20:00 The return from Denham followed a remote public footpath crossing various tributaries of the Frays River (pictured) and under a bridge which used to carry the Denham to Uxbridge railway line.  I didn't pass another person on this two-mile section of footpath.  Warm and often sunny.
Tim Bellars Running 11miles North Downs 01:49:00 Cross country, along the base of the North Downs. Last long run before Fussen marathon on Saturday. Nice easy pace. Feeling good for the weekend.

parkrun Review Saturday 6th July 2024

The Saturday morning parkruns were held with the possibility in mind of having a Serbian serial men’s winner at Wimbledon and England finally winning a men’s football tournament.  As the weekend unfolded we witnessed only the third Spanish champion when it came to the men’s tennis championship which started in 1877.  The first Euro tournament was held in 1960 and when possible every four years since – Spain’s victory in 2024 brings their tally to four, better than any other country.  Spain obviously produces some fine sportspeople but you have to feel sorry for them – there is not a single parkrun in Spain.

No new parkruns added to the club total this week but how’s this for creating confusion.  Y Promenad parkrun (Brecon) has just been run for the 7th time with attendances averaging 200.  Brecon Beacons, well inland, toilets available (20p). Course on tarmac and grass by the River Usk.  This week saw the inaugural at Y Promenad, Abermau at Barmouth with a view of Cardigan Bay, Irish Sea.  This newcomer is offering toilets and showers at the local leisure centre and a RNLI station as an added feel good factor. As you might guess "Y Promenad" translates from Welsh to "The Promenade" in English.

Three emphatic PBs to report this week.  Duncan Wright (21:46) knocked two and a half minutes of last week’s time at Narin Beach in Co. Donegal.  He once ran 18:54 at the original course at Fulham Palace.  David Bird (23:01) visited Hanworth for a second attempt and improved his time by a minute and three quarters.  Trish McCabe (27:01) was at Frimley Lodge for only the second time and improved by 70 seconds.

The first to finish at the Battersea Park junior parkrun (2km) this week needed only 6:44 to get round the course.  This supports what we know already – if the 5km parkrun ever gets off the ground, it will be quick.
