12th June Club In-house Event - Coaching Session

Many thanks to everyone who put themselves forward as ‘willing victims’ for my first time organising a coaching session. I’m sorry about the drizzly weather and hope that everyone has now recovered and benefited in some way from the torture. It was a lot to cram in the time and it is part of my learning to be clearer in planning and communicating the exercises, as missing/muddling the odd word or two can surprise in responses !  As well as the more traditional elements I was ‘pushing’ the benefits of smiling and incorporating relaxation/recovery whilst running, with prizes being awarded to Clara and Steve T respectively for best demonstrating these ! I think it was quite revealing how unclear we are on post-run stretching techniques which is an area to work on particularly.

Participants: Barry, Gary, Colin, Graham, Steve T, Denis, Steve H, Alan, Clara, Roderick

Observing/Supporting: Brian, Alistair, Paddy

parkrun Stats and Plans

We reported last week that Brian Bennett had lost his age-group record at Upton Court parkrun.  We can now report that he has won it back - by knocking 61 seconds off his previous time and 39 seconds off his rival's time from the previous week. Stay tuned to this channel for further updates!

There were only ten BAAC family parkrunners last weekend but that was in part because some of us took on volunteer duties.  I had it easy, handing out 115 finish tags in 30 minutes at Bedfont Lakes, whereas Steve Newell had well over twice as much to do at Gunnersbury handing out 286 tags condensed into 25 minutes (the time from the first finisher to the last).

The Longest parkrun - SUNDAY 23rd June

This Sunday why don't you join in some (or all) of the Longest parkrun.  In the SW London run there are a total of seven parkruns to complete with the following start times.  The starts will be organised and the courses may be marked but are unlikely to be marshalled and note that these are self-timed "Freedom Runs".  Ian Cunningham is going to attempt all seven - driving or being driven between them; I'm planning the first three or four and (probably) cycling between them.  Steve Newell may well attempt the last three.  Let me know if you fancy joining us.
