Level 2 Officials Course: Sutton - Sunday, 30th September

In short - if anyone is interested in the course detailed below or any of those also listed below then check out the details and tell Steve Hillier [stevehillier@msn.com] ASAP.  The Club will be prepared to subsidise a proportion of the cost.

The above course has been flagged on the SCAA website for some weeks, and I have also advertised it via existing Surrey affiliated officials. Details can be found on the England Athletics website at: http://www.englandathletics.org/courses.asp?itemid=9642&itemTitle=Officials+-+Level+2+%28Track%29&section=33  and http://www.englandathletics.org/courses.asp?itemid=9643&itemTitle=Officials+-+Level+2+%28Field%29&section=33

Both modules (i.e. Track Judging and Field Judging) on this course have sufficient numbers registered with EA to ensure that they should definitely go ahead: most of those have been supplied by the South London Athletics Network, whom I congratulate for getting this course off the ground. However, I understand that there are still places available: these should be booked directly with EA if anyone from British Airways A.C. is interested. As you will know only too well, we can never have enough qualified officials at any level. Please note that SCAA are not currently intending to offer any additional UKA Level 2 courses within Surrey this autumn, as I am expecting that the above courses will satisfy local demand in the two main disciplines. If you think that there may be additional demand from within your club, please let me know: I may consider arranging some courses in March. Please note that there are courses for Timekeepers and Starters / Marksmen being run just across the county border (we all need to work together these days and Surrey based officials can affiliate to SCAA wherever they take the course) in Ealing on 13th October, see: http://www.englandathletics.org/courses.asp?itemid=9942&itemTitle=Officials+-+Level+2+%28Timekeeper%29&section=33  and http://www.englandathletics.org/courses.asp?itemid=9943&itemTitle=Officials+-+Level+2+%28Starter%2FMarksman%29&section=33

There are further Track Judging and Field Judging modules scheduled there that day. There is also an Endurance (including Risk Assessment) course being run (under the auspices of South West London Network: again, well done to them) at St Mary’s University College Twickenham, see http://www.englandathletics.org/courses.asp?itemid=9856&itemTitle=Officials+-+Level+2+%28Endurance%29+%26+Risk+Assessment&section=33  on 6th October. I know that there are places still available on this: again these can be booked directly with EA.

Regards,

Peter Crawshaw Officials Secretary Surrey County AA

“Over the next five years, in the lead up to the World Championships in London in 2017, we feel we can really work with IPC Athletics to improve standards and help develop the sport of elite marathon running within these classes. We believe this is a natural progression from the work we have done within elite wheelchair marathon racing’’.

Xavier Gonzalez, CEO of IPC Athletics said; “This is fantastic news and I would like to thank the organisers for their support, the profile of para-marathon running will be increased by this partnership and I look forward to the first event next year”.

News for the next BAAC News Digest? A joke or running related story perhaps?

The idea of this communication is to consolidate some of the news items that would otherwise be forwarded individually to all club members.  This should reduce the total number of emails landing in your inbox whilst highlighting all of the running related news.  We will still send out prompt announcements for key events as separate emails. Please let us know if you think that this Digest is a good idea or on how it could be improved.  And please send us some items for inclusion in the next one.

Results, news, feedback, jokes, stores - send it to us at news@barunner.org,uk.
