Coronavirus Restrictions - updated
The club would like to operate normally over the forthcoming weeks
but the advice of the Government is to avoid all unnecessary
face-to-face contact AND we are licensed by England Athletics who have
now asked us to suspend ALL such activities, "club training sessions,
events, competitions, club committee and face-to-face meetings, athlete
camps, running groups and social events", until at least the end of
April.
We have therefore suspended all of our planned events until that
time. HOWEVER, we would like to continue to operate as a club of like-minded runners and we would like us all to boost our health by
building fitness and through exposure to fresh air and sunshine. This
helps make the body stronger against viral infections.
We are proposing a SOLO event for this weekend. We would like as many
club runners as possible to run a 5k distance sometime on Saturday or
Sunday (but PLEASE
avoid 9-10 on a parkrun course, see footnote). Please plan and undertake
such a run and fill in the details below and return this to me for
compilation for next Monday's digest. Note though:
- Do not do this if you are unwell, particularly if you
have symptoms of the coronavirus such as a fever, or if you share a
house with someone who has these symptoms,
- Do not do this if you consider yourself vulnerable, such as
being elderly and with pre-existing health conditions.
- Do not travel to a location for this - use your local park or
leisure route.
We normally have at least 30 club members undertaking a parkrun on a
Saturday morning. I would hope that the same number of us can do this
SOLO run this weekend. If successful, then we may repeat this each weekend and
explore the option for other "virtual" runs including for next week's
final Handicap of the series.

Footnote - faced with the same problem, parkrun UK have cancelled all
UK parkruns from this weekend. It is possible that many people will
react to this by running a freedom run at their usual parkrun venue at
the usual time on the Saturday. Large numbers doing so will provoke a
reaction from authorities to close parks or restrict freedom further.
We are fighting a virus, not authority. So please avoid regular parkrun
courses from 9-10 on Saturdays.
