Volunteer Call for Concorde One-Hour Race - Sunday 5th JuneThe medals have arrived for next Sunday's Concorde One Hour Race - and they look just like my simulation. I've got 80 of these to give away on Sunday. We are allowing a maximum of 50 entrants (currently at 25) so we should have enough for all the participants, the children of participants doing the children's race and have enough left over for the volunteers (though my mum has already asked me for one for her!). Let me know to expect you as a helper, or enter the event to see how far you can run in the hour. Entries and fuller details: https://barunner.activetrainingworld.com/tc-events/concorde-1hr/ Helpers: > Roderick Hoffman The main volunteer duties will be to marshal the children's race and to
record lap times of runners in the one-hour event. Ride London Thanks and ReportSteve Hillier has other things to be catching up on today, so the report on our involvement in yesterday's event will be documented in next week's digest. In the meantime thanks to Steve for organising our involvement. British Airways 5K Handicap event, Weds 25th May, results and reportSix members took part in the revived "Northumberland 5k" around Bedfont. The run was organised on a pursuit basis with the slowest starting first and the hope of a close finish around 7 pm. It was time to welcome back Tony Barnwell (54:16) who was accompanied round by Steve Hillier. Roderick Hoffman (29:29) had them in his sights. Stephen Taylor (25:32) achieved the best net time. Jacob Stenham (26:12, junior) and Maarten Stenham (same time) blamed poor navigation for not being closer. For reference the runners started by post "HWI706", outside the primary school in Hatton Road, and finished on the foot/cycle path between the allotments and the school by the nearest mature tree to Hatton Road. (See last week's Digest for map). Timekeepers Steve Newell and Simon Turton. Runners, helpers and family members then retired to the Bedfont Club for some good food supplied by the Duke of Wellington across the road. Steve Newell Club Evening 22nd JuneWe have the Bedfont Club booked for Wednesday evening for 22nd June. Does anyone want to organise an event that evening? Either a run from the club house or perhaps either at Bedfont Lakes or Feltham track. I'm away that week but can answer questions and handle suggestions. This is your club. Future NOW EventsWould anyone be put off attending a NOW event within the London ULEZ zone (inside North and South circular roads) on the grounds of the extra cost incurred? Reply to me. Recent Activity AchievementsI picked up on 14 club members and friends reporting recent activity achievements.
Don't we get around! Roderick Hoffman parkrun Results for Saturday 28th May 202227 activities are recorded this week. Please get in touch if your activity is missing.
There was plenty of tourism this weekend as the weeklong jubilee holiday got underway. There was a great gathering at University Parks in Oxford which is getting very popular with an attendance this week of over 400. Six members new and old were running there all for the first time - Phil Howard (24:41), Alice Banks (26:56), Paola Howard (29:29), Roderick Hoffman (29:40), Benita Scaife (32:36) and John Scaife (32:36). Their tourism ratios are interesting with Phil and Paola 4 from 4 and potential Hoffman candidates, Alice Banks 55 out 192, Roderick 326 out of 425, Benita 82 out of 222 and John Scaife 90 out of 245. Further afield, Chris Kelly (48:06, 63 out of 515) was at Rothay Park in the Lake District. Several members are edging towards their century of different parkruns (the "Cowell"). Julie Barclay is now 89/239, Trish McCabe 89/364, Paul Watt 85/187. Those already over 100 include Steve Newell (120/420) and David Duggan (105/405). Mike Dennison equalled his pb at Kingston with 19:25 worth over 85%. Alastair Heslop had a rare week off - Guildford parkrun was cancelled due to the presence of caravans in the park. Steve Newell (still with PC problems hence the short report this week) The unofficial club featured parkrun...The unofficial Club Featured parkrun on Saturday was University Parks in Oxford [pictured]. Although claiming to be over from the US West Coast for his brother's wedding the Howards were using their time well with the parkrun and meeting friends and then getting to Monaco on Sunday for the Grand Prix. John Banks walked a lap of the parkrun course. Kerry Eastwood was there by chance as was Eleanor Bailey, who both me and John/Benita know through tourist encounters.
