and is a figure of 8, mostly on pathways , quite flat with 2 downhill parts
,slight uphill finish on grass. Course record so far after
week 2 of the run at the park is 16.42. There are 180 acres of
parkland at Gunnersbury and has 1000 years of history. Named in year 1000ish ,
after Gunlyda , the niece of King Canute. Many have owned the land there,
private until 1926. Bishop of London owned the
land , passed on to Sir John Maynard and then was owned in the 18th
century by Princess Amelia, King George 11 Daughter.
She had many parties at the mansion (raves) causing gossip & rumours!! After she died, further
buildings were added and in 1835 the Rothchild’s owned the estate for next 90
years. The estate was then sold to
Ealing & Acton council for £130,000 , and in 1926 Neville Chamberlain opened the
park to all. Today the mansion is a
Museum (free entry) and has been seen in films including’ The Lavender Hill Mob
‘. Hope to see you all for
this park run, 8.30am for the warm up!! (BA vest) Cheers Eddie Giles.
