Queen Mother Reservoir 10k Tuesday 15th May
All,
This year I’m championing the Queen Mother Reservoir 10k on the evening of
Tuesday 15th May. I’m not just championing it for the Athletics Club but I’m
also trying to get a team of twenty runners from my IT department at BA to run
at the event. So far I’ve got about ten signed up but with more to come. It
would be great if when they run the race they see lots of BAAC runners there and
that could only encourage them to join the club so please consider entering this
event.
The Queen Mother Reservoir is run from Datchet sailing base near Colnbrook,
about two miles due west of Waterside/Harmondsworth, and the start time is 19:30
so the event is very convenient for after work. The course is totally flat
since it is two laps around the rim of the reservoir and there are good views of
Heathrow, Windsor Castle and the M4 as you go around. The race normally
attracts well over 100 runners whose times (last year) varied from 35 minutes to
1hr 13 minutes. There is also a 5k run that evening if you are keen to be
involved but don’t think that you can manage a 10k. The website also says
“Toilets, changing & refreshments in Datchet Water Sailing Club; traffic free;
on-site parking; spectator-friendly. Sorry, no dogs allowed on premises.”
For details and the online entry process please visit the event website at:
http://www.purplepatchrunning.com/races/queen-mother-reservoir-5k10k-race-series
. The entry cost in advance is £15 (plus online entry fee) but you can get a £2
discount if you are affiliated to UKAthletics. The 5k is cheaper and entry on
the day (if possible) is more expensive. Also this race is the first of a
series of three and if you commit to the others you will get a bulk discount.
Note that the options make the entry process confusing so remember that for the
event I’m focusing on you enter the 10k on 15th May and optionally the other two
dates as well. As well as the affiliated running club field there is also a
Team Name field - please enter “baRunner” in this field so that we show up on
the results. There is also a postal entry process and the form is at:
http://www.purplepatchrunning.com/images/stories/purplepatchrunning/Races/QMR_Entry_Form_2012_v3.pdf
. Please enter in advance since the event often fills up with runners
including some of our friends from Datchet Dashers and Runneymede Runners.
Apologies to members of the club who are getting these details from me twice…but
thank you in advance for entering and running the event.
Please contact me for further details or to register your interest.
