Surrey League XC Ladies League Div 2 1st Match Results
Hi All
Just as well I was late circulating the
results of the 1st Ladies XC match
as there had been some mistakes in the
previous 2 lots, and now I think I
should circulate the 3rd version. Let's
hope there's no 4th version unless
to our advantage!

Anyway, the first match was held at the
Lightwater Country Park on
Saturday, 8 October at 1200hrs. The day
was dry and somewhat sunny but
somewhat windy. It was great to see 5
ladies turned up to run - Katherine,
Melanie, Monica, Helen and me. Barry
Walters and Nick Edge arrived early
to support the ladies team before the men's
event which started at 1500hrs.
The course took in a small lap and 2 large
laps with a total distance of
about 6.4km. It was hilly in parts but
everyone in the team ran well. Kat
shot off like a bullet at the fire of the
gun, followed by the rest of us.
I was hopeful of a great score knowing that
Kat was right in front with the
leaders. As I came round to start my 3rd
lap, I saw Kat at our base
putting on her warm top and grinned. She
was fast! It was only after I
finished my run and went to congratulate
Kat on her speedy run that she
explained she had actually stopped after 2
laps because of asthma problem.
So as not alarm anyone, she was OK after
taking her medication.
When we all finished, we had a little
picnic at base with our sail flag
flying proudly in the wind. Mel coudln't
join us as she needed to go home,
but the rest of us together with Barry and
Nick tucked into Kat's birthday
cake, some sandwiches and pudding and tea &
coffee. There was even a
tipple supplied by Monica!
Thanks to everyone who attended for a great
time. Let's hope more ladies
will turn up to run in December.
Unfortunately I will not be able to
attend as I am running the Singapore
Marathon on 4 Dec. However, the men's
captain Barry has offered to look after the
ladies at this match.
Date of the next match - 3rd December 11 -
Richmond Park, Petersham End
(Ranelagh Harriers). As soon as I get more
information I will circulate.
