5 mile Handicap result Oct 31st 2012

Here are the results from last week's 5 mile handicap.

Usually you have a good idea of your points from the time you finished, however for various reasons a few runners did not start on their handicap time. The points awarded are based upon the actual run time and how much it varied from the handicap time, and not how far away from 1:00:00 at the finish.

Next month (Nov 28th), we will aim for the finish time to be 17:50 to give time to put the clock away and still get to the sports hall for 18:00. After Nov (that is Dec Jan Feb Mar) we will revert to 'normal' aiming to finish at 19:00.

Event format - over the winter months there are a series of "handicap" races.  Each race your target is based on the time that you achieved at your previous run.  Finishers are ranked by how close they finished to their target time and each finisher scores one point plus one point for everyone "behind" them. The season winner is the runner with the most points. The format rewards runners who are consistent - both in turning up but also in their finishing time.  Watches can be worn but the use of watches to optimise points would be considered unsporting.

News for the next BAAC News Digest? Too frequent parkrun updates?  No three legged race updates? We can only publish what we are given.

The idea of this communication is to consolidate some of the news items that would otherwise be forwarded individually to all club members.  We will still send out prompt announcements for key events as separate emails. Please let us have your ideas for how club communications can be improved and please send us items for inclusion in the next Digest.  Results, news, feedback, jokes, stores - send it to us at,uk.
