Results for Next Week

Please help me by sending in your results, for instance by filling in the tables below and forwarding to News@barunner.org.uk. Some events will have "Prompts" set up in Facebook. These allow the posting of a single image and some text and make it easy to flip through everyone's entries.

Monthly Mile - please submit your April Mile performance for publication in the first May digest (6th May):

Run one mile and send me your time or add the details to the prompt in Facebook. The mile can be somebody else's formal event or even one mile within a longer run. I'll then produce a fancy graph showing your time this month compared to those of other people and previous runs over the last year:

Mile Participant Location Date How Measured Duration/Time Comment: e.g. event

Your Athletic Achievement of the Week (or use the prompt in the BAAC Facebook group):

Events to look forward to

The London Marathon is rapidly approaching. Lots of runners were out last weekend doing their last major run before the big one. For some it was perhaps also their first major run. For our 120+ marshals this weekend coming is perhaps the last chance for some serious training for standing around and cheering. Remember it will be a long day on the 21st.

Our track & field opener is scheduled for 1st May on the track at Feltham. This is a low key opportunity for anyone linked with the club to practice one or more of the shorter track events from 1500m down to 100m - or all of them for the full experience!

We have two "Non Office Worker" NOW events in the diary - one in Maidenhead on 7th May hosted by the Scaifes and one at Northala Fields on 18th June hosted by Roderick Hoffman. Ideas for NOW events in July or August are invited.

May 18th / 19th is the weekend for the Green Belt Relay where the club has a team of eleven runners circumnavigating a 220mile circuit of London. We do have a full team, but we have lost our reserve runner, so let Chris Kelly know if you fancy a challenge that weekend as a reserve. We'll also be keen for anyone to cheer us off from Hampton Court on the Saturday, cheer us home in Bushy Park on the Sunday, or to join us at any of the three marshalling points we will be operating.

Our AGM is set for Wednesday 3rd July at the Bedfont Club. Food will be provided. We are keen to get new members into the organising committee. Please ask an existing committee member how you could be useful.

Benita Scaife Walking Braywick Park, Maidenhead Mon am Few opportunities to run this week as we are dog-sitting our son’s 8 month old Labrador who is deemed too young to run 5k as he is still growing…

Bob Bannister parkrun 5km Bedfont Lakes Sat am It has to be my 500th parkrun. A big thanks to all the BA Runners who came along to Bedfont Lakes to join me. I’m now looking forward to more adventures over the next 500. Fingers crossed!

Fiona Bishop  Race Donkey Lane, Enfield. Sat I did Pymmes parkrun then a race walk afterwards at Donkey Lane in Enfield next to Queen Elizabeth Stadium.  I am injured so have deferred my London marathon place to next year hopefully.  So in the meanwhile I just walk/jog at parkrun.
Jain Reid  Race Half-M Prague Half-Marathon Sun 02:19:45 As a training run for London, but also my nephew's first half, so a proud auntie moment. I think he may have overdone it on the carb loading
Jasvir Singh Modaher  Race marathon Southampton Sun am Another day another marathon medal yesterday in Southampton. Tough conditions; wind, wind and more winds especially on the bridge. One done and two to go, Manchester and then London.

Melanie Miller Walking 10.5km Netley Abbey, Southampton Sat 03:27:19 Netley Abbey walkabout after parkrun down to the piers end. Netley Abbey is a fun parkrun wud advise you to do it if you get the chance, nice to walk along the woods and sea wall.
Mike Thorn nil 0km anywhere allweek 00:00:00 Mike reported that he didn't do a parkrun this week [this is a running joke between Mike and the editor].
Petra Otto parkrun 5km March Sat am At the gym, the manageress asked to see the BA shield, and promptly put it on Pure Gym’s Instagram. Apart from the gym and the Nordic Skier, after 7+ months since my hamstring injury, I made the decision to very slowly walk the parkrun. I have to start somewhere, even if I was supposed to walk for no more than 1/2 an hour. The 20-mile round trip hurt a lot more than the actual walk.
Piers Keenleyside  Race 10miles Thames Towpath Ten Sun 01:31:30 Way off my target time, finishing in 1:31:30. Too much rough trail for my liking - about 3 miles on soft grass around Old Deer Park, 5 miles on the towpath and 2 on pavement by Kew Gardens. Nice pint glass again as a finishing memento.
Roderick Hoffman Running 10.46km Canal to Greenford and back Sun 01:07:21 Training run at 6:30 pace to prepare for Wings for Life run in May (and GBR). Managed 10.46km at 6:26 pace. Photo is of the course at Stockley Country before I corrected my error!
Steve Hillier Running 5.6km South Harrow parks Sun 00:45:45 A jog through South Harrow parks:  Newton Farm, Newton Ecology Park and Alexandra Park.  A windy, warm run.  5.6km covered in 45:45.

parkrun Review Saturday 6th April 2024

Bedfont Lakes parkrun club runners

There was a good gathering at Bedfont Lakes this week to celebrate another member reaching the “500” milestone.  Bob Bannister (29:34) completed his with what was his 346th run at Bedfont.  He finished alongside fellow 500 runee Guilaine Sherward (same time), a friend of the club for many a year. It was a mercifully dry morning but the course was in a seasonal condition and the run briefing included a recommendation to go through the puddles rather than on the slippery mud round them.  Several of our membership now into the final lap of “mission 500” were present - Scott Davison (27:34, 460 runs), Trish McCabe (29:05, 462 runs) and Roderick Hoffman (31:17, 485 runs).  [Ed: photos from the photographer on duty - showing the "Lakes" of Bedfont Lakes. And yes, I did deliberately splash for the camera.]

Those closing in on vests of different colours include David Cowell (19:36 at Colwick, 98 runs), Denis Foxley (32:26 at Harrow, 247 runs) and Adrian Haines (19:47 at Ifield Mill Pond, 93 runs).

Welcome back to Eddie Giles) (29:36 at Salisbury) and Petra Otto (64:39 at March) who appear in the results for the first time in 2024.

Are the floods receding?  Generally, yes but some courses are still waterlogged and we are now into the season showers.  Reading may need at least another week!

Steve Newell

Matters Arising - top ten parkruns run by members

By my calculations (Steve Newell might disagree) members have run at Bushy Park 1,704 times, at Bedfont Lakes just ten times fewer with 1,694, Gunnersbury half as many 860, Reading 827, Black Park 615, Crane Park 602, Osterley 592, Maidenhead 398 times, Harrow 315 times and Woking 307 times. Our next finisher at Northala Fields will be our 200th there. Alice Banks ran at Higginson, Marlow on Christmas Day as our 100th run there...and there have been few opportunities to run there since and club members haven't taken them.
