Forthcoming EventsDon't forget the following priority club events:
New members and non-members of all fitness levels and abilities are welcome at all of these events. The full events diary is on the club website at: http://www.barunner.org.uk/Event Diary.shtml. Reminder BAAC Winter QuizThis year's BAAC quiz takes place this week, from 8pm on Wednesday, at the Concorde Centre. Bring your own team (any size), bring a friend, or simply come alone and join in the fun in an on-the-night team. Ten varying rounds of questions will suit all interests and abilities - there will be no quantum physics, but enough challenges to get the grey cells going. There will be a collection for the club's charity, White Lodge - minimum donation £1 per head. All welcome - See you there! Quiz Master Steve Hillier Laurie Kelly Presentation/Discussion Wednesday 21st NovemberMany of us will have met Laurie at various events over the years. One of his responsibilities is as the Race Director and Time Keeper for the Surrey League Cross Country races including the men's race that we will be hosting in Cranford Park on January 12th. Laurie will talk to us about the work involved. This will be particularly useful for any members who will be helping that day (and we will be looking for many helpers!) but should be generally interesting for all members. This talk will be in the Concorde Centre and will start at 20:00 (allowing recovery time from that evenings Sportshall Session). Concorde Race 2013The Concorde 10k has been a regular fixture on the club diary for at least the last twenty years. A reminder that it is twenty years is because our course certificate is expiring (it was valid for ten years and then extended for another ten). Having to get the course re-measured and certified is giving us the excuse to consider changes for next year's event. To spread the workload we are having a small sub-committee responsible for designing the course and running the event. The members of this group are myself, Roderick Hoffman (on-the-day Race Director), Paul Knechtl (Course Design) and Alastair Heslop (responsible for entries and publicity). We would like to have one or two additional members on this group. Please let me know if you are interested, even if you are unsure as to what your contribution could be, though note that since Paul, Alasdair and myself all have access to BA Waterside we would prefer it if we are able to meet there (non-BA staff can be signed in but this would be during office hours). Next BA Club parkrun Saturday 17th November KingstonThe next stage of the BAAC "tour-de-parkrun" is at Kingston, Surrey on Saturday 17th November, start time 9am. Website: http://www.parkrun.org.uk/kingston/home The event is halfway between Kingston and Ham on the Thames Towpath next to the Hawker Centre*, KT2 5BH. Parking is limited. It is 1 mile from Kingston railway station and just over a mile from Teddington rail station. Teddington lock is about half a mile from the start and a footbridge crosses the Thames here. Riverside Drive about 3/4 mile from the start has free parking, I don’t know about parking in roads closer to the start. The route is mostly included in the Richmond 10K in June run by Ranelagh Harriers. It is part paved and part mud/trail (possibly puddles too) so you may wish to wear your old trainers. There is a café at the Hawker Centre if you want to join us for a coffee and chat after the run before embarking on a Xmas (not long now) shopping excursion into Kingston maybe?? Hope you can join us at Kingston on the 17th November, where we will meet near the start for the usual photo. Need a lift? Get in touch with myself (Staines/Ashford) or Roderick Hoffman (Hayes) and we will see if we or someone else can give you a lift. Regards Neil Frediani. * Those of us with an interest in aviation may wish to follow this link to see why it is called the Hawker Centre: http://www.kingstonaviation.org/js/plugins/filemanager/files/Brief_History_Banner__14B_Layout_1.pdf Website: http://www.parkrun.org.uk/kingston/home Surrey League Cross Country Division 3 Roundshaw November 2012 Results
