Results for Next Week
Please help me by sending in your results, for instance by filling in the tables below and
forwarding to
News@barunner.org.uk. Some events will have "Prompts" set up in
Facebook.
These allow the posting of a single image and some text and make it easy to flip
through everyone's entries.
Monthly Mile - please submit your March Mile performance for publication in the first
April digest (1st April):
Run one mile and send me your time or add the details to the prompt in
Facebook. The mile can be somebody else's formal event or even one mile within a
longer run. I'll then produce a fancy graph showing your time this month
compared to those of other people and previous runs over the last year:

Editorial - March Mile Opportunity
For those wanting an opportunity to run a measured mile this Wednesday could
be a good one, before our Awards event. The Bedfont changing rooms will be
open before 18:00 and from there I'm planning to jog out to the track at Feltham
to do a self-timed one-mile run around the track. Anyone is welcome to join me,
either meeting at the club house by 18:00 or meet at the track at about 18:20.
Sunset is at 18:16 so we must expect to run in the gloom.
During March anyone timing a mile distance run, including as part of
a different event but with a course not biased in your favour, should
submit their best mile time using the form above, the prompt on Facebook
or an email to me. All mile results submitted will be published in the
digest to be issued on 1st April - albeit anyone other than Adrian posting a sub-4minute
time may not be believed.

Details NOW run 21st March Farnborough 12:00
Updated information about this week's NOW run:
A lot of the route is on hard fine gravel, a la Bedfont Lakes, and some is
through woodland trail. On Sunday there were many puddles but not too much mud.
Trail shoes are probably the best recommendation. The planned route is 5.6km and is suitable for running or walking. It is
flat.
We suggest meeting in the carpark adjacent to the ‘Chalk in the Park’ cafe
which is on Ively Road in Farnborough at 12:00.
The full address is Southwood Country Park, Ively Road, Farnborough GU14 0LJ.
The cafe’s menu is available online:

parkrun Review Saturday 16th
March 2024
If anyone was considering getting along to Fulham Palace parkrun in two-weeks'
time (Easter Saturday 30th March) and sticking around to watch the starts of
FOUR boat university boat races in the afternoon, forget it. Bishops Park
and Fulham FC will become a Fan-Park for the event and the parkrun has been
cancelled. BBC TV has extensive coverage of the four races (men and women,
first eights and reserves) in the afternoon. Fulham are away at Sheffield
United that afternoon while Brentford’s home match v Manchester United will not
kick-off until 8 p.m.!
There were more UK parkruns operating this week than for a while but some
places are still suffering after weeks of rain with puddles and soft mud making
PBs difficult to achieve so congratulations to Ben Kelly (22:06), a refugee from
a flooded Reading, who has scored a hat-trick of PBs this month with runs at
Dinton Pastures either side of a visit to Woodley. His time at Dinton Pastures
has improved in stages from 22:48 on Christmas Day.
Roderick Hoffman (29:06) was at Tamworth Castle for a rally of the “Hoffman
Club” whose most dedicated members have amassed a hard won zero when it comes to
pbs. The secret is to never go back. Roderick himself had ignored
parkrun since its inception in 2004 for almost seven years before dipping his
toe in the water (possibly literally) at Bedfont Lakes and his initial
experiences were well spread out across London and the Home Counties and
several weeks concluding with a trip to Albert Melbourne on New Year’s Eve.
After that the pace quickened slightly but the principal of zero repeats was by
now firmly established and a target of 50 set and achieved [Ed At Concord
parkrun]. At this time
the concept spread beyond any close inner circle and another enthusiast,
Gregory Bailey, picked up the baton and took it beyond the hundred mark and
indeed on to 250, then 251 and then retiring as the urge to return to re-run a
“favourite” became irresistible. That was back in 2018. He has now been
back and revisited 40 parkruns. We now have a new leader in the race to eternity
and it will be interesting to see how long he keeps it going. Brian Nel (24:41)
VM35-39 (unattached) was at Tamworth Castle Grounds parkrun (#18) to make it 252
(and counting). [Photo shows record holders from right to left -
Roderick, Gregory and Brian]
Steve Newell
Matters Arising -
Hoffman Club.
I had held the 50+ record for about 17 months before Gregory took it from me
(with me joining him at Lyme Park when he did so). Gregory has held the record
for 9 years and 8 months. Brian might only hold the record for a couple of weeks
because another member, Julie Olson, is just one run behind Brian - indeed there
are reasons why Brian might miss some parkruns soon, even if he choses not to
repeat. Not that it is a race, of course.
Bushy Pacers
Both Ian and Mike were keen to demonstrate that they read this far through
the digest by pointing out that the pacers at Bushy all being women last week
was to mark International Women's Day.
