Oh Vienna - ASCA Cross Country 2012 Results

It has been a number of years since the BAAC mens and ladies teams participated jointly in an ASCA cross country event. This year the venue of Vienna seemed to inspire interest and three ladies and six men duly travelled out to take part in a competition hosted by Austrian Airlines. The weather was unseasonably hot with temperatures around 26C and unbroken sunshine a far cry from UK weather.

The course was in the country but consisted mostly of gravely paths with a short stretch of road. The ladies were doing one lap of 4.75K while the men had two circuits totalling 9.5K. We duly watched the ladies start and disappear into the distance and when they re-emerged Deby was our leading lady and placed 9th overall followed by Lissa in 13th position and then Clara completing the team in 17th spot. We were later to discover that they just missed out on a 3rd team placing by one point.

Soon it was the men in action and John was to lead the team home in 5th overall and pick up a 3rd masters award. Next was myself in 11th place and then new man Tom Ash in 17th with Gary 21st, Piers 26th and Denis 30th. This was good enough for us to place 3rd team overall. The winner from Icelandair won by over 7 minutes, very impressive.

In the afternoon we were taken on a coach tour of Vienna and in the evening we travelled to an oldie worldie restaurant for dinner and the awards presentation. Our ladies really got the party started with some artistic face painting and pretty soon everyone was joining in. All in all an enjoyable weekend with Austrian proving to be good hosts.

Hi All Attached are the results of the Vienna XC event received today. if you go to the ASCA website (www.ASCA.CC) there are some photos of the award evening. Hopefully those of you who took pictures of the runs will be circulating them soon  :)
